The Roaring Twenties: Glitter and Candy Cocktails

Two posts in one day? Just trying to make up for lost time. I just wanted to thank everyone who reached out to wish me a happy birthday! It was happy indeed, thanks to my lovely friends and family. Pictured is a scalloped magnolia cake with gold foil candles and a Slate + Willow glitter romper. My favorite cocktail for this weekend was candy champagne! For a candy store champagne, pour champagne (for the 21+ guests!) over cotton candy or a stick of rock candy.  You can take pieces of either for a beautiful garnish!  Thank you again for the birthday wishes! Xo, Julia

Strawberries and Sunshine: Picnic for Four!

Hello beauties! It is finally warm and sunny out and I am stuck indoors with International Politics textbooks and the lovely essays by Berkley. Thankfully, my lovely Kappa sisters and I made the time for a super chic picnic! For a warm and sparkling picnic, bring fresh fruits, an easy, breakable bread and different jams! We brought madelines, grapes, and Pellegrino! Break out the nautical dresses, hot pink lips, pink accessories, and flowing florals. Also, everyone should go check out my sister Irene’s blog!  http://irene-anna.blogspot.com Back to studying! Xo, Julia

Spring Cleaning, But Like, For Your Life

I’ve never liked New Year’s Resolutions. Perhaps because they’re a cliché and I want to seem cool and different (even when I’m not), but here’s something about Spring and blooming and melting snow that elicits that very instinct in me. Here are a few little things to remember while the ice melts. 1. Forget, but also don’t forget how pretty you look when you read Baudelaire in a tea shop; be surprised, but also not surprised, when you get 5 different people’s numbers on napkins when you leave. 2. Stop watching Netflix. Pull yourself together. 3. It’s okay to be a feminist and still want a cute boy to buy you dinner. 4. Write handwritten thank you notes, even for your roommate doing your sines or for your friend who called you when you were sad. Manners go a long way, and it’s an excuse to fuel your online shopping addiction with Anthropologie stationary. 5. Buy a wicker basket to put your lunch in, and you will never feel cuter. 6. Pretend the Chanel you wear is your natural scent …

Post-Valentine’s Day Musings

Happy belated Valentine’s Day! I have to say I’m having a bit of post-holiday depression. This weekend was so magical. Thank you to my amazing boyfriend and family and lady friends. I felt like a princess all weekend with champagne, strawberries, and dancing all night.  Everyone deserves the royal treatment! I just wanted to take this time to express how amazing the people in my life are and how everyone deserves to be told how loved and appreciated they are this time of year. Thank you to everyone, I love you. Love each other. xo, Julia

A+ Second Semester Secrets

Happy second semester, beauties! I am sharing with you my favorite ways to stay organized and ontop of my studies! 1) Get a planner. Add parties, add errands, add when your period starts, add dates with your boyfriend and when essays are due. Add everything, and you will never confuse times and always be aware of your responsibilities all at once. 2) Read and highlight texts the day before, and read only the highlights the morning before class. I always tend to miss details during class having read it the night before. This is the best way to read thoroughly beforehand, but also recalling details. 3) Make a Google Doc with a Classmate. An alliance like this is key when taking notes and studying. Add notes that they missed, and you will get notes that you missed. Make a study guide and assign different things to outline. 4) Eat grapefruits. Grapefruit is filled with vitamin B9, which is crucial for brain function. This will keep you sharp all day for your classes, and it’s also filled with vitamin C! 5) Emergen-C. …

My Funny Galentine: Gifts

We are approaching the best day of the year: Galentine’s Day. For anyone who doesn’t watch NBC’s Parks and Recreation, Galentine’s Day is a holiday invented by the protagonist, Leslie Knope, to celebrate strong female friendships the day before Valentine’s Day, February 13th. The day involves a brunch with all of Leslie’s best girlfriends. Boys are fickle and break your heart, Galentines are forever. 1) Invite your best girlfriends out to brunch on February 13th. 2) Bring photo albums, scrapbooks, and any heart-shaped baked good you can make! 3) As for your Galentine’s gift, crafts are the sweetest way to tell your best friends that you love them. They are personal and one-of-a-kind. In the first photo, I made a collage  out of a Variety magazine. In the second photo, I made frames for my friends. Plain wooden frames can be found at Joanne’s or Michael’s, and so can wooden accessories (I found wooden bows). You can also buy a bouquet of fake flowers, pull apart the blossoms and hot glue them. The paint is acrylic, …

The Secrets to Scrapbook Stardom

It is my belief that in this digital age, people do not look through photo albums as often as they should with Facebook right at their fingertips. Because I have a 1 month break from NYU, I decided to scrapbook my entire life (skipping middle school, obviously). I’ve decided to share the best scrapbooking tips I have! Firstly, the key to a great composition is layering to the point of simulated 3-Dimension. By cutting out people, cakes, and other cute images and putting them on top of each other, a beautiful display is created. Secondly, I was at first daunted by the price of scrapbooking paper and stickers. Michael’s always has 40% off coupons, however, for Jollee’s 3D stickers. I also recommend buying a complete scrapbook with paper, which can be found at Outlet stores. I found mine at Marshall’s for $10 each. I made 3 scrapbooks (high school, freshman year, and sophomore year) for $45, so roughly $15 each including stickers. For photo prints, I recommend just going on Snapfish.com and connecting to Facebook. …
