A Beautiful Little Fool: Jazz Age Lawn Party 2015

Hello my loves! This weekend was the NYC Jazz Age Lawn Party, which means that governor’s island, a 15 minute ferry from Manhattan, magically transforms into a East Egg fairytale of cropped hair and garter-hugged flasks. I went with my Kappa sister, Erin, and the rest was twentieth century history. Here are some photos of my lovely Saturday in 1927. If you live in the NYC area, please, please go to the event August 15th or 16th! There is jazz, dancing, glittering headbands and feathery frocks for sale, and unapologetically nostalgic twenty-somethings laying in the sun, trying to forget about the phones in their pockets. Here’s the ticketing information: http://www.jazzagelawnparty.com/tickets.html XO, Julia

Star-Spankled Blueberry Shortbread Pie

Bonjour mes petits choux, I hope you all had an amazing memorial day weekend! Most of what I did was try out new recipes and desserts (and actually hurt myself on the donuts featured in my next post, which may or may not be about fire safety…), so I thought I would post about this amazing pie crust recipe that I actually came upon by reading ingredients wrong and substituting shortening. Honestly, I think shortening is kind of gross, but that’s what all American pie crust is made out of. I put butter in instead. What I messed up was reading tablespoon instead of teaspoon on the granulated sugar. Honestly, the tablespoon gives it a lot more flavor, and brings out the pinch of salt a lot more. Blueberries baked can sometimes get a little sour, so the sweet will definitely compliment the lemon juice and blueberry filling. Here’s my recipe! I actually did a 1.5 batches of the dough to create the stars on top. Filling: 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, if desired 6 cups …

Queen of Coney Island: Outfit of the Day

Happy Wednesday! Because I am in between the end of school and the beginning of interning (I got an internship doing paralegal work at a small corporation!), I’m finding ways to spend time without actually working. Before my boyfriend leaves for LA to do movie things, we went to Coney Island for some sunshine and funnel cakes. I’ve never done “Outfit of the Day” posts before, mostly because so far I’ve only posted in winter, when my uniform consists of a down coat and barely-salvaged-by-high-heeled Uggs. I bought this coordinate outfit at Necessary Clothing, a local boutique in NY with an online store as well. And no outfit is complete without a sorority tote and a bag of cotton candy. “A Twist of Lime” flip flops are Kate Spade, found at Marshall’s for $20! XO, Julia

Strawberries and Sunshine: Picnic for Four!

Hello beauties! It is finally warm and sunny out and I am stuck indoors with International Politics textbooks and the lovely essays by Berkley. Thankfully, my lovely Kappa sisters and I made the time for a super chic picnic! For a warm and sparkling picnic, bring fresh fruits, an easy, breakable bread and different jams! We brought madelines, grapes, and Pellegrino! Break out the nautical dresses, hot pink lips, pink accessories, and flowing florals. Also, everyone should go check out my sister Irene’s blog!  http://irene-anna.blogspot.com Back to studying! Xo, Julia

Spring Cleaning, But Like, For Your Life

I’ve never liked New Year’s Resolutions. Perhaps because they’re a cliché and I want to seem cool and different (even when I’m not), but here’s something about Spring and blooming and melting snow that elicits that very instinct in me. Here are a few little things to remember while the ice melts. 1. Forget, but also don’t forget how pretty you look when you read Baudelaire in a tea shop; be surprised, but also not surprised, when you get 5 different people’s numbers on napkins when you leave. 2. Stop watching Netflix. Pull yourself together. 3. It’s okay to be a feminist and still want a cute boy to buy you dinner. 4. Write handwritten thank you notes, even for your roommate doing your sines or for your friend who called you when you were sad. Manners go a long way, and it’s an excuse to fuel your online shopping addiction with Anthropologie stationary. 5. Buy a wicker basket to put your lunch in, and you will never feel cuter. 6. Pretend the Chanel you wear is your natural scent …
