Strawberries and Sunshine: Picnic for Four!

Hello beauties! It is finally warm and sunny out and I am stuck indoors with International Politics textbooks and the lovely essays by Berkley. Thankfully, my lovely Kappa sisters and I made the time for a super chic picnic! For a warm and sparkling picnic, bring fresh fruits, an easy, breakable bread and different jams! We brought madelines, grapes, and Pellegrino! Break out the nautical dresses, hot pink lips, pink accessories, and flowing florals. Also, everyone should go check out my sister Irene’s blog!  http://irene-anna.blogspot.com Back to studying! Xo, Julia

Spring Cleaning, But Like, For Your Life

I’ve never liked New Year’s Resolutions. Perhaps because they’re a cliché and I want to seem cool and different (even when I’m not), but here’s something about Spring and blooming and melting snow that elicits that very instinct in me. Here are a few little things to remember while the ice melts. 1. Forget, but also don’t forget how pretty you look when you read Baudelaire in a tea shop; be surprised, but also not surprised, when you get 5 different people’s numbers on napkins when you leave. 2. Stop watching Netflix. Pull yourself together. 3. It’s okay to be a feminist and still want a cute boy to buy you dinner. 4. Write handwritten thank you notes, even for your roommate doing your sines or for your friend who called you when you were sad. Manners go a long way, and it’s an excuse to fuel your online shopping addiction with Anthropologie stationary. 5. Buy a wicker basket to put your lunch in, and you will never feel cuter. 6. Pretend the Chanel you wear is your natural scent …

The Secrets to Scrapbook Stardom

It is my belief that in this digital age, people do not look through photo albums as often as they should with Facebook right at their fingertips. Because I have a 1 month break from NYU, I decided to scrapbook my entire life (skipping middle school, obviously). I’ve decided to share the best scrapbooking tips I have! Firstly, the key to a great composition is layering to the point of simulated 3-Dimension. By cutting out people, cakes, and other cute images and putting them on top of each other, a beautiful display is created. Secondly, I was at first daunted by the price of scrapbooking paper and stickers. Michael’s always has 40% off coupons, however, for Jollee’s 3D stickers. I also recommend buying a complete scrapbook with paper, which can be found at Outlet stores. I found mine at Marshall’s for $10 each. I made 3 scrapbooks (high school, freshman year, and sophomore year) for $45, so roughly $15 each including stickers. For photo prints, I recommend just going on Snapfish.com and connecting to Facebook. …

(1995)

~ Happy 2015! It is my prediction that 2015 fashion will be all about The Nineties.  I decided to pay homage to a simpler time 20 years past with inspiration from Taylor Swift’s Times Square New Years Eve performance (only with, well, my birth year). And let’s be honest, also because Friends just made it’s way onto Netflix. My first look features some cat eye sunglasses, $6 from Forever 21, a $15 sweater-dress from Marshall’s, and a vintage 90’s bedazzled denim jacket from Artists and Fleas in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for $30. The second look is perhaps the most authentic with a 1995 Banana Republic mint jacket, a plain white forever 21 white tea pinned in the back, and an admittedly overpriced American Apparel skirt at $50. The third features a black velvet dress, $8 at Macy’s, and a Kate Spade fur scarf. Turtlenecks, knee highs, denim, and matching tops & bottoms, the 90’s are a seriously underrated decade for fashion. Not pictured, but my best friend also just made me a beautiful choker out of stretchy string. Welcome, 2015! xo, …

Farmhouse Chic: French Cottage Bedroom

I decided to de-clutter and focus in on an exact theme for my bedroom upstate.  I started with clipping Christmas decorations (the sparkly butterflies pictured) onto my chandelier (Ikea). I painted a stool a light blue and added floral details with some craft paint and concentrated all of my crystal trinkets onto one tray. A white basket filled with a pillow and little toys made it look a lot more “quaint” and beautiful lace cloth kept it from looking stark. Cheap flea market crystal and lace are a beautiful way to add a “le midi” touch to any room. (Also, shoutout to my mother for creating the oil paintings pictured). Bonne chance! xo, Julia

Cookie Carnival

Bonjour mes amis! And happy holidays! Celebrate with 2 new variations of Christmas cookies and serve with champagne over tangerine or pomegranate sorbet. To decorate cookies, section off vanilla cookies and color. Use colored dough to create christmas trees and candy canes. Cover dark chocolate cookies with powdered sugar! I will post DIY gifts tomorrow, and thanks to winter break, I’m cooking up homemade bath concoctions out of household ingredients! Joyeux Noel! xo, Julia
