In pursuit of magic

Hey everyone! It’s been literally over a year but I couldn’t think of a better outfit to resurrect this blog with. My BFF Eliza Lambert literally takes the most gorgeous pictures so I’m so glad we got to play after Sunday brunch in the sweet 62 degree weather!  These jeans are my new favorites; I saw them on the @topshop Instagram and ran over the next day to grab the last ones in my size. I got the tee on Etsy customized (shop called Vellichor Vibes) and was approached by what I think was a conversion group and was asked it was a Christian thing (“no, it’s a taylor swift thing.”) The slicked-back hair is my new favorite beauty trend and had to take if for a spin; just a little mousse and combover does the trick. Have an amaze first week of actual NYC spring! Xo Julia  Advertisements

An American in Paris

Bonjour, my old friends! I know it’s been forever since I’ve written literally anything on here (my last post was pumpkins) but I may or may not have had the most incredibly busy semester of my life. Not to worry though, I’ve taken the semester off from jobs and only have my lovely French-themed classes to focus on in NYU Paris. Not a huge adjustment from NY, but eye contact is perceived as flirting with men (I make more eye contact than I thought) and I’m getting more flowers than usual from strangers. Here’s a quick lil outfit pic followed by some more cute pics of my lovely new city.  My top is theory, sunglasses from F21, American apparel pants, hat from the street, Tiffany rings, and my lipstick is Mac Retro Matte in Ruby Woo.                                  Bisous, Julia

Spooky in Lilly: Preppy Pumpkins for Halloween

Hello lovelies! Just wanted to share a quick Halloween pumpkin idea. If the usual Halloween decorations don’t fit your ~aesthetic~, painting pumpkins to match your decor ties in perfectly while celebrating the season! I copied a classic Lilly Pulitzer print and kept the stem natural, though a white painted stem would be gorgeous too! I used acrylic paints from Michaels.  Stay spooky! Xo, Julia

The Perfect Late Summer Meal: Watermelon Gazpacho

What better way to soak up the last few weeks of summer than to celebrate with the best of the season’s crops? Here’s my favorite Watermelon Gazpacho recipe. 5 cups peeled, seeded, and roughly chopped watermelon, plus 1 cup finely chopped 1/2 cup cranberry juice 1 cup peeled, seeded, and diced cucumber 1 cup diced celery (about 2 stalks) 3/4 cup diced red bell pepper (about 1 pepper) 1/4 cup diced red onion 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, minced 1/4 cup fresh parsley, minced Juice of 1 lime (about 3 tablespoons) 1 1/2 tablespoons sherry vinegar 1 tablespoon jalapeno pepper, minced DIRECTIONS Combine 5 cups watermelon and the cranberry juice in the jar of a blender, and puree until mixture is smooth. Pass through a fine sieve into a large bowl or plastic storage container, discarding pulp. You should have 3 cups strained liquid. Add cucumber, celery, bell pepper, onion, herbs, lime juice, vinegar, jalapeno, and remaining cup chopped melon to watermelon liquid, and stir to combine. To really get the flavors infused, keep it …

Career: Get Your Dream Internship

Hi lovelies!! I always attend so many networking and career conferences (#findspark) and always learn an insane amount from recruiters, mostly about what I’m doing wrong. Here are some of the best-kept HR secrets. Step 1: Finding the Job, When It’s Not Posted Online: Have you ever noticed your classmates sign on to this amazing internship that you can’t even apply to online? This has always baffled me that there are secret internships. Mostly, it is because they keep the internships within references. So, if an intern is leaving, she recommends her friend. That sort of thing. So how do you POSSIBLY apply to this? If you don’t have a LinkedIn, make one. I cannot stress how important this is!! So many jobs nowadays are placed exclusively on LinkedIn, and recruiters often are too lazy to look for your resume in the huge database after an interview, so they’ll do a quick search. Get one. This takes a little bit of confidence and is often out of many people’s comfort zones, but search for the …

Rooftop Season: Outfits of the Day

Featured is the majestic and fabulous Nikita Roach (who is actually a Forever 21 model!) in a Target romper and red felt American Apparel hat. On yours truly is (Nikita’s) Target skirt and Theory white top and Rocksbox statement piece. Shoes are from Marshall’s with Tiffanys rings and bracelets. Nikita’s “tennis” bracelet is actually from Wimbleton! Can’t wait for the U.S. Open to try to find a matching one.            Xo, Julia
